THE CHALLENGE
DENSO is a $45.1 billion global mobility supplier that develops advanced technology and components for nearly every vehicle make and model on the road today. In North America, the company employs more than 27,000 engineers, researchers and skilled workers across 51 sties in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. When the corporate communications team in North America was looking for help in supporting the local and regional human resources departments with their previously poor communications activities, they reached out to WayPoint.
OUR APPROACH
After meeting with the communications team and various members from HR, the WayPoint hit the ground running in getting requests organized and developing good internal communications content. To do this, we took on the responsibility for being the primary contact with various HR departments and contacts to develop written and visual materials that were shared on the company’s multiple platforms. Because we were on-site at the company’s headquarters two days a week, we attended meetings and events, quickly generating relationships with key HR contacts as well as others in the communications department.
Eventually our support expanded beyond HR to developing internal communication content for local and regional sites. This included everything from employee spotlights, project highlights, corporate news and information, and site logistical information. Our crew also created content in conjunction with DENSO associates in Mexico and Canada. Because DENSO is a large corporation with office and production associates, materials had to be developed to fit various formats and communication vehicles. When needed, WayPoint worked with DENSO’s external vendors for graphic design support.
In addition to HR and internal communication support, the WayPoint team became one of the members coordinating, producing and distributing information on DENSO’s Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) activities. Our team collaborated with DENSO associates to create a brand, slogan and monthly newsletter designed to educate associates in North America on various aspects of D&I and DENSO’s commitment to this initiative. As D&I activities grew to include business resource groups, our team developed promotional materials as well as documents and forms for the groups to use in reporting activities.
Internally, our involvement has expanded to provide support to one of DENSO’s sites in Michigan, helping to create materials for training, retirements, local updates, executive letters of commendation and more.
Today, we remain an integrated part of the corporate communications team, providing support remotely through participation in weekly calls and development of internal content for HR (regional and site), corporate and local site teams, and DE&I activities.
